Once I got my hands on Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare (CoD:AW), I noticed a few similarities with the Mass Effect franchise. I really love enjoy the Call of Duty franchise (but glad I didn't pay for Ghosts... YUCK) and I love everything BioWare so it was easy for me to see multiple inspirations within these two completely different games. Let's go and make this list! Lists are fun. Science has proven that. (not really)
Let's start with number #1...
1. Joker
CoD:AW's Joker is a side character and I must emphasize SIDE. He must have a whopping 10 minutes of total screen time and that's me being generous.Yes, they don't look anything alike other than being a little on the ugly side. But...if ME's Joker shaved that beard and removed that baseball cap...maybe...just maybe...
Other than their name, they both play a small role in the grand scale of things but at the end of the day... Mass Effect wins.
I know it's not a competition...
Stop pretending like you get to make the rules...
2. Shepard on Cover
Shepard, the main protagonist and player character in the Mass Effect franchise, can be seen on a lot of advertisements as well as the cover itself of CoD:AW.
Annnnd this is Sherpard from ME.
The best part is that CoD: AW character model doesn't even resemble any character in CoD:AW what.so.ever.
3. ATLAS
This might be a bit nit picky but the name Atlas is used in CoD:AW as the name of the big company that Mr. Spacey owns. That company can be very much compared to ME's Ceberus. They're both ran by egomaniacs that believe in questionable ways to get the universe to revolve around there beliefs. The color schemes are very similar as well; both using a lot of white and bulky armor.
Annnnd both companies use turrets and mechs to further their cause...which brings me to ME's Ceberus's Mech called the Atlas.
4. Logo
Annnnnnnd then there's the logo. Call of Duty games have a signature logo that gets modified year after year. This year's Advanced Warfare using a line that seems to go through the rest of the logo. We can also see that from every Mass Effect game as well.
I am now finished. I hope you did not take this as a rant because I am not saying Sledgehammer must have been playing the Mass Effect franchise way too much while designing Call of Duty Advanced Warfare... but maybe. I noticed it and thought I should share.
Mass Effect 4. BioWare...I'm looking at you.
Please leave any comments you may have below. I'd love to hear what you think.
